Our History / Milestones

Some significant contributions of SPECS are:

  1. 1. Jan- Jan ko sudh jal campaign for water quality started in 1990 is being run successfully for last three decades
  2. 2. Anti-polythene garbage management campaign since 1995.
  3. 3. Water filter developed in 1998 and certified in 2000 by IIT, New Delhi.
  4. 4. Developed 428 STEM toys for better understanding of scientific principles since 2001.
  5. 5. Developed Jal Kasauti (2000)
  6. 6. Rasoi Kasauti-kit for all districts, UT of India, YSA 2004.
  7. 7. Mitti Kasauti (2004) Kits and
  8. 8. Started E-Waste Management for climate change mitigation in 2004
  9. 9. Bloom Hydroponics solution (2005).
  10. 10. Created 100 LED Bulb repairing centres in 18 states of India minimising E-Waste. Program started in 2006 and continues.
  11. 11. Training on making and repairing of Energy conservation tools for Jail inmates, Mahila Sudhar Griha and Bal Sudhar Griha, Dehradun, Hardwar 2010 onwards.
  12. 12. Installation of Ropeway in Kedarnath disaster in 2013.
  13. 13. Low-cost Solar emergency lights were provided to 2000 and 3500 families during Kedarnath (2013) and Kashmir (2014) disasters, respectively.
  14. 14. A Fuse for LED bulb developed in 2016 and fitted in 327 villages of Uttarakhand. While saturating 327 villages of Uttarakhand by 7-watt LED bulbs, state is saving 302 lakh electric units per year, 21245 MT Green House Gases. It also provided employment to local youth, villagers, inmates of jail and especially abled persons. The work was done during the years 2016 – 18.
  15. 15. More than 2.10 lakh fruit trees planted in Doiwala Developmental block during the year 2019. About 35000 families were involved in this plantation drive, of which survival rate is above 85% recorded in the year 2022.
  16. 16. Rupees one lakh, 325 PPE kits, 10,000 masks given to CM Relief Fund Uttarakhand, in COVID-2020.
  17. 17. Mud water filters were created and installed at each square of Dehradun city for COVID warriors in 2020.
  18. 18. Employment for 68 women, 62,000 Masks Distributed during COVID 2020 which continued till 2021.
  19. 19. Training to jail inmates in bamboo carving lamps, Solar lights, LED Bulbs and tube lights to Dehradun, Hardwar District Jail and Bal Sudhar Griha has led to their skill development.
  20. 20. Have done 22 innovations for improving quality of life since inception of SPECS.
  21. 21. Trained and supported more than 500 entrepreneurs in different sectors since 1995.
  22. 22. Organised more than 2300 workshops, seminars and events to train over 20 lakh people in various parts India.
  23. 23. Authored, co-authored 16 books, booklets and 32 brochures.
  24. 24. Established E-waste management and mitigation centers in Dehradun and Rudraprayag districts

Laboratories developed/established:

  1. • Air Pollution LAB, People's Science Institute, Dehra Dun
  2. • Low-cost water testing lab, Dept. of Zoology, D.A.V. PG College, Dehradun.
  3. • Low-cost water testing lab, Dept. of Microbiology, Chinmaya Degree College. Hardwar.
