At SPECS, we believe in meeting every need with our permanent solution. Our journey began with a crucial role during the 2013 disaster in Uttarakhand, where our portable lights with mobile charging facilities proved to be a lifeline for the affected population. This pivotal moment highlighted the importance of such devices in times of crisis, not just in Uttarakhand but also during similar disasters in Kashmir.
Our portable lights are not only functional but also contribute to the greater good. Manufactured and assembled by trained inmates of the Dehra Dun jail,we distributed around 2000 portable lights in Uttarakhand and 3200 in Kashmir Valley. Additionally, we empowered over 200 local individuals in the tribal areas of Uttarakhand and Kashmir by providing training in the manufacturing, maintenance, and repair of these lights, fostering self-reliance and community support.
The journey of evolution doesn't stop there. Inspired by our earlier collaboration with the Forest Department on Bamboo propagation, we ventured into creating LED lights encased in bamboo bodies. This innovative approach has resulted in creatively designed lamps that emit diverse and attractive light patterns, perfect for urban homes.
Our impact extends beyond just product creation. Over 350 people in Uttarakhand, including jail inmates from Dehra Dun, have received training to craft these bamboo lamps. These unique creations are now showcased and sold at trade and cultural fairs as beautiful souvenir pieces, reflecting both the dedication of SPECS and the society formed by jail authorities committed to prisoners' rehabilitation.
At SPECS, we are more than NGO, we are a force for positive change. Our journey continues as we light up lives and empower communities, one innovative product at a time.
